Replacing verbs and prepositions?
Exactly. But it is usually impossible to speak using pinch-hitter commas, without sounding like the guy under the bridge asking for change. For example:
"Will work for food"
"food,will,work"
I have to disagree with your example, as rather than stringing nouns and adjectives you've just put commas between the verbs and noun.
