Some very wise Catholic friends of mine this evening instructed me that while I, as a pagan (Protestant) misunderstood the Immaculate Conception to have to do with Christ's conception (my DH muttered something about Terry Bradshaw and Franco Harris and, I'm sure, being struck by lightning), the actual event had to do with St. Anne's conception of the Virgin Mary and the Virgin's living without Original Sin. Despite considering myself a very well-instructed Christian, I must admit, in the words of Johnny Carson, that I did not know that.
