Top Five Layoff Lessons

1. Today's technology makes it ridiculously easy to take 6.5 years of electronic files and emails home with you.

2. Workplace diversity is among the luxuries of a good economy.

3. The recycling bins in my former employer's copy room are not large enough for them to lay off more than one or two tenured employees at a time without having a negative impact on the environment.

4. If you choose to burn all your old business cards in a fire pit, use the screen, because those babies get airborne with remarkable quickness.

5. Being laid off is similar, in other people's minds, to being ejected from a fighter jet, because without exception every reply I got to my farewell emails from colleagues included the phrase "where you land."
