Provolone Star

Oh, yes, and now I've won my fantasy baseball league!

Hear Me Roar

I won the Longest Drive contest at Longwood Country Club today. I beat everybody, even the men.

Oh, and we have electricity. :)

Just Pretend It's Little House on the Prairie

We still don't have electricity at our house. Not having electricity isn't a big deal if no one else you know in Houston has it. When almost EVERYONE else you know in Houston has it, it doesn't put you in the Laura Ingalls mood you might expect it would.

Oh, the Humanity

Okay, so if this is the worst Ike gave us, we did just fine, but I mean, really. After all the care we took to remove our potentially deadly and damaging trees earlier this hurricane season, our neighbor's tree drops on us!?! You can still see it there, standing in the background, leaning AWAY from our property, as it has for at least 6 years, taunting me now.

Here's our brush pile from just the portions of the tree that were on our roof, after husband and brother-in-law chainsawed it off the garage. For not having any trees in our property, we sure do have a giant amount of debris at the curb...

First Gulf Coast Casualty: Spell Check

If you've got time to print and install a bright orange sign you can only use once, you have time to proofread it. It should be "RecyclExpress."

Is Ikea the Feminine Form of Ike?

Bad cats, bad cats, whatcha gonna do...

Ike: Just Flee It

Poor kitties on the way to stay at the animal clinic.

It's tough to see, but if you look closely at the black bag in the photo above, you can see Gomez's one visible eye giving me a death stare.

Ike, Ike Baby

Our work let out early today, and while we pack for our trip and batten down the house for Ike, I've been reading the Chronicle's live chat with SciGuy Eric Berger. Some of these posts are hilarious. Check it out.

Among my favorites:

2:51[Comment From John] I have a double wide on the west end of galveston - past the seawall, about 2 blocks off the beach. Should I evacuate?

2:51 Eric Berger: Oh my goodness, yes. And right now.

It Does a Body Good

I just received an email suggesting that a project I'm working on might be able to submit for another LEED credit if the owner will be willing to provide the private areas of lactating mothers?!? Also, making it a little funnier, we would need to document how doing so has led to increased employee productivity…

Are You Ready for Some Football?

Hooray! The Nutbag Tailgate menu for this afternoon: grilled Maine lobster tails, creamy mascarpone risotto, arugula and field greens in a lemon vinaigrette with shaved parmesan, and homemade peach ice cream left over from my birthday.

It's September already, isn't it?
